Description

Mas Llunes · DO Empordà

A white from garnacha blanca (85%) and macabeu (15%), grown on slate soils in Garriguella. The grapes are hand-picked and macerated on their skins for ten hours at 7 °C. Fermentation lasts twenty-one days in stainless steel at 13 °C, followed by five months resting in new French oak barrels. The name, from an old word meaning “of snow”, refers to the Canigó, visible from the vineyard.

The winery

Mas Llunes

Winery of the Roig family in Garriguella, at the foot of the Albera natural park. The current winery started up in 2000, although the family has documented winemaking at the site for more than seven hundred years. They work some 75 hectares of their own vineyards, farmed organically, on soils of slate, clay and alluvial terraces. The tramontana wind defines the area: it dries the grapes and keeps them healthy.
