Mas Llunes · DO Empordà

Red blend of Grenache (around 63%) and Cabernet Sauvignon from slate vineyards in Garriguella. The two varieties are vinified separately and spend twelve months in French oak barrels before blending. Bottled with minimal filtration. The name recalls Emporion, the Greek colony of Empúries.

The winery

Mas Llunes

Family winery in Garriguella, at the foot of the Albera natural park. The current winery opened in 2000, although the family has records of winemaking on the site going back more than seven hundred years. They farm some 75 hectares of their own organically managed vines, on slate, clay and alluvial terraces. The tramontane wind shapes the area: it dries the grapes and keeps them healthy.

Appearance

Serving temperature

Between 16 and 18 °C.
