Description

Mestres · DO Cava

A blend of xarel·lo, macabeu and parellada from organic vineyards on limestone soils. The base wine ferments in stainless steel tank and the tirage is sealed with a natural cork stopper. It then spends more than forty-two months on the lees, with periodic riddling so the lees keep working. Disgorgement is done by hand and the date always appears on the label.

The winery

Mestres

A family house in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia with documented roots going back to 1312 and twenty-eight generations of winegrowers. The first bottle of Mestres cava dates from 1928, made with grapes from the 1925 harvest by Josep Mestres Manobens. They farm around twenty hectares of organic vines with an average age of sixty-eight years, and make about 150,000 bottles a year. The house is known for its long ageing and for a brut nature made without dosage liqueur.
