Maison Albera · AOP Côtes du Roussillon

Grenache Noir, Carignan and Syrah from old north-facing vines, set within the natural amphitheatre formed by the limestone cliffs of Tautavel and Vingrau. The soil is limestone. The aspect and the rock walls keep things cool in a very hot part of Roussillon. The winery describes it as a captivating, enveloping wine, made for sharing.

The winery

Maison Albera

A Roussillon house based in Argelès-sur-Mer, at the foot of the Albera massif. Alexandre Rieu took over the family estate in 2001 and works it with his brother Fabrice. The whole project is built on high-altitude vineyards: plots on the Tarerach plateau, above 500 metres, on granitic sands and quartz. Altitude gives their wines marked acidity and minerality, and is their answer to climate change. They practise sustainable viticulture.
