Description

Bodegas Estefanía (Tilenus) · DO Bierzo

Mencía from the Pieros vineyard, with vines planted in 1902 at around 650 metres. Hand-harvested and fermented with whole bunches and native yeasts. It then spends eighteen to twenty-two months in French oak barrels and rests a while longer in bottle before release. Around 13.5% abv.

The winery

Bodegas Estefanía (Tilenus)

Bodegas Estefanía was founded in 1999, when the Frías family converted a former dairy plant in the village of Dehesas, in Ponferrada (León). It farms around 40 hectares of old-vine mencía and godello in the DO Bierzo, on mineral, clay-rich soils in a valley with a continental climate and Atlantic influence. The winery is built from slate, stone and wood, as local architecture dictates, and the ageing cellar holds nearly a thousand Bordeaux-style French oak barrels.

Between 16 and 18 °C. Ages well in bottle.
