Description

Altún · DOCa Rioja

Tempranillo from the estate’s own plots in Baños de Ebro, in Rioja Alavesa, on clay-limestone soils with vines about forty years old. The grapes are hand-picked and selected, destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with an eight- to ten-day maceration. It then spends fourteen months in French oak barrels.

The winery

Altún

Winery in Baños de Ebro, in Rioja Alavesa, founded in 1989 by José Antonio Martínez from the vines his father had worked since 1939. Today it is run by his sons, Iker and Alberto, the third generation of winegrowers. They farm some 45 hectares of their own, spread across plots in Baños de Ebro, Laguardia and La Sonsierra, on limestone, gravel and clay soils sheltered by the Sierra de Cantabria.
