Description

Leatherwood · WO Western Cape

Viognier from the Western Cape, South Africa’s broadest appellation, which allows grapes from several Cape areas to be blended into one bottle. A variety at home in the Rhône, here it is made to capture the most tropical, ripe side of the fruit without losing the dry finish. It comes in at 13.5% abv.

The winery

Leatherwood

A South African brand of regional wines, bottled under the Western Cape appellation, which covers all of the Cape’s wine-growing areas. The range includes whites (sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, viognier) and reds (shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and a blend). They work mainly for export. The technical information they publish is scant, so vineyard and ageing details cannot be given precisely.
