Description

Cims de Porrera · DOQ Priorat

Single-variety Carignan from vines between forty and one hundred years old, planted on llicorella at 350 to 500 metres on very steep slopes, where each vine yields only 300 to 500 grams of grapes. Since 2004 it has been bottled apart from the Grenache, becoming a pure Carignan wine. It spends sixteen months in French oak barrels and then several years in bottle at the winery before release.

The winery

Cims de Porrera

A project launched in 1996 to save the centenarian vineyards of Porrera that were being abandoned. It grew out of Josep Lluís Pérez’s Carignan trials at Mas Martinet and got started with the village cooperative. Today it is run by Adrià and Marc Pérez with some twenty growers. The vineyards are Carignan and Grenache on llicorella slate, at 350 to 600 metres, on slopes of 40 to 50%, with yields of 300 to 500 grams per vine.
