Description

Albet i Noya · DO Penedès

A blend of garnacha, cabernet sauvignon and merlot from organic vineyards in the Penedès. Harvested by hand, with grape selection. Cold fermentation and maceration for six to eight days, then twelve months in second- and third-year French oak barrels, already-used wood that gives the wine body without weighing it down.

The winery

Albet i Noya

A family winery in Sant Pau d’Ordal, in Subirats, based at the Can Vendrell de la Codina estate. The family has been here since 1903, and in 1978 gave up chemical treatments for organic farming, the first winery in Spain to do so. They work about 80 hectares in the Ordal Mountains, on clay-limestone plots reaching 400 metres of altitude. Since 2013 they have been researching resistant varieties suited to climate change, and in 2025 they earned B Corp certification.

Appearance

Ruby red of medium depth.

Nose

Vanilla, fine cocoa and ripe fruit, with the balsamic touch of garnacha.

Pairing

Coca de recapte (Catalan vegetable flatbread), charred vegetables with botifarra sausage and grilled sardines.
