Description

Altún · DOCa Rioja

Tempranillo rosé made from six high plots in Laguardia and San Vicente de la Sonsierra, between 550 and 650 metres, planted as bush vines on the slope, where cold nights and the north wind prolong ripening. Gently pressed, half of the free-run must is fermented at 16 °C in French oak barrels for twenty to thirty days. It then spends three months on the lees in tank.

The winery

Altún

A winery in Baños de Ebro, in Rioja Alavesa, founded in 1989 by José Antonio Martínez from the vineyards his father had worked since 1939. Today it is run by his sons, Iker and Alberto, the third generation of winegrowers. They farm about 45 hectares of their own, spread across plots in Baños de Ebro, Laguardia and La Sonsierra, on limestone, gravel and clay soils, sheltered by the Sierra de Cantabria.
